Scholarships & Fellowships offered through CSUEB 

Associated Students Fellowships: These fellowships, created for students involved in research with a faculty member, provide $600.00 of support each quarter. Fellowships can range from one to three quarters within the academic year, depending on the complexity and nature of the research in which the student is involved. Eligibility requirements: 1) applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of four units (4) for graduate students, and nine (9) for undergraduate students; 2) fellowship recipients must maintain full-time enrollment; 3) recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA; 4) student can submit only one application for each academic year. To Apply: Obtain application form from the School of Science office (SC N131); must attach to the application form a proposal on the research project to be carried out under the award. Deadline for application mid-May each year for following Fall quarter award.

  California Pre-Doctoral Program Fellowship: This progam seeks to increase the diversity of CSUEB students and is offered to those students who will continue their studies at the doctoral level and become eligible for faculty positions. Eligibility Requirements: 1) CSUEB juniors, seniors, or graduate students are eligible to apply; 2) potential for success in completing a doctoral program; 3) degree of underrepresentation in the national pool of doctoral recipients in the area of study proposed by the applicant; 4) applicants must have a faculty sponsor and develop a plan ultimately leading to Ph.D. study. This program provides for travel funds and other related expenses, and an opportunity for summer internships. To Apply: Contact the Office of Graduate Programs at CSUEB. Applications are available each Fall; application deadline is in February.

  Elsie Sanderson Nursing Scholarship: One $1000.00 scholarship offered to CSUEB nursing students. Eligibility Requirements: 1) CSUEB student admitted to the Nursing Clinical program who will be a Level II student or above in the Fall of the award year; 2) GPA 3.0 or higher; 3) two letters of recommendation from CSUEB faculty; 4) personal statement describing why applicant is entering the nursing profession, career aspirations, contributions applicant has made to the community, demonstration of financial need. To Apply: Obtain application form from the School of Science office (SC N131); must attach to the application form a proposal on the research project to be carried out under the award. Deadline for application mid-May each year for following Fall award.

  Ernest Clements Scholarship: One $600.00 scholarship offered to undergraduate sohpomores and juniors majoring in science or mathematics. Eligibility requirements: 1) CSUEB sophomore or junior majoring in science or mathematics; 2) thirty-six (36) units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 3) two letters of recommendation by CSUEB faculty; 4) GPA 3.0 or higher; 5) personal statement. To Apply: Obtain application form from the School of Science office (SC N131); attach two letters of recommendation. Deadline for application mid-May each year for following Fall award.

  Forgivable Loan/Doctoral Incentive Program: Through this program, students who plan to enter a Ph.D. program may borrow up to $10,000.00 per year (to a total of $30,000 within a 5-year period). Students who complete their doctoral studies and teach in the CSUEB system as full-time faculty members will have their loan forgiven at the rate of twenty percent for each year of teaching; whose who do not obtain a CSUEB faculty position are required to re-pay the loan at an interest rate comparable to other student loans. Eligibility Requirements: 1) be a member of an ethnic group underrepresented in the CSUEB faculty in the proposed field of study (particularly natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, and engineering); 2) applicants do not have to be accepted into a doctoral program at the time of application.   Future Scholars Program: These scholarships, offered to graduating high school seniors, and community college transfer students offer $1,000 annually for up to three years. The scholarships are renewable for those students who maintain good academic standing after transfer to CSUEB. Eligibility requirements: 1) economically, educationally, or environmentally disadvantaged; 2) California resident and regularly admitted to CSUEB; 3) apply for Fall quarter and enroll full-time; 4) must submit (on-line) a Free Application for Federal Student Aid by the March 2 deadline each year.   Graduate Equity Fellowships: These fellowships, ranging from $500.00 to $4,500.00 annually, were created to increase the diversity of students completing graduate degree programs within the CSUEB system. Eligibility Requirements: 1) either economically disadvantaged or a member of an ethnic group underrepresented in the chosen field of study; 2) must submit (on-line) a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. by the March 2 deadline each year. To Apply: Complete the university financial aid process (contact the Office of Graduate Programs at CSUEB). Deadline for application during Spring quarter for following Fall quarter.

  Guy Warren Scholarship: One $600.00 scholarship offered to undergraduate seniors majoring in science or mathematics. Eligibility Requirements: 1) CSUEB senior majoring in science or mathematics; 2) thirty-six (36) units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 3) two letters of recommendation from CSUEB faculty; 4) GPA 3.0 or higher; 5) personal statement. To Apply: Obtain application form from the School of Science office (SC N131); attach two letters of recommendation. Deadline for application is mid-May each year for following Fall award.

  Hospital Service League Scholarship: One $1,000.00 scholarship offered to undergraduate students in the fields of clinical nursing, health sciences, or biology (with a biomedical laboratoty sciences option). Eligibility Requirements: 1: CSUEB student in the departments of Clinical Nursing, Health Sciences, or Biology; 2) thirty-six (36) completed units (or in progress) at CSUEB; 3) must be an Alameda County resident; 4) GPA 3.0 or higher; 5) personal statement demonstrating clinical aptitude, and describing academic interests, extracurricular activities, career aspirations, as well as demonstrate financial need; 6) two letters of recommendation from CSUEB faculty. To Apply: Obtain application form from the School of Science office (SC N131); attach two letters of recommendation. Deadline for application mid-May each year for following Fall award.

  Physical Science Scholarship: One $500.00 scholarship offered to students majoring in physics or physical science. Eligibility Requirements: 1) CSUEB student majoring in physics or physical science; 2) thirty six (36) units completed (or in progress) at CSUEB; 3) two letters of recommendation from CSUEB faculty; 4) GPA 3.0 or higher; 5) personal statement.
