DATA MINING AND SOME APPLICATION EXAMPLES

This presentation will consist of two parts. In the first part, I will give a general introduction of Data Mining concepts and methods. I will first talk about what Data Mining is, why we need Data Mining. Then, I will discuss the Data Mining procedures and what kind of data can be mined and the benefit of Data Mining technology. In the second part, I will talk about some Data Mining application projects I am involved. The first project is about using Data Mining technology to help telephone service companies solve the customer churning problem. The second project discusses about how Data Mining methods help online web stores to do cross-selling, personalization and generate business intelligence reports to understand its business and customers.
