Michael K. Leung received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University
of Southern California and post-doctoral training, under a National Cancer
Institute Fellowship, at the University of California, Los Angeles. He
assumed the position of the Dean of the School of Science at California State
University, Hayward in 1995. Before that he taught both chemistry and
biochemistry at the State University of New York/Old Westbury for 18 years.
He served as the Chair of the Chemistry Department during his last six years
at Old Westbury. He has a strong interest in the study of biochemical linkages
between mental state and physiological well being. His past research activity
was focused in the area of the effects of enkephalins on the immune cell and
their release and degradation in the circulatory system. He has published over
fifty papers in scientific journals and his work was supported by funding from
the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Mental Health
for over 17 years. Since coming to Hayward he has been working on the use of
remote access technology on analytical instruments under the project, CREATE.

Alan Monat earned his Ph.D. in Personality Psychology from U.C. Berkeley in 1972.
Since then, he has taught at the California State University, Hayward where
currently he is Professor of Psychology and serves as Chair of the department. In
2000, Dr. Monat became the first Director of the Institute for Mental Health and
Wellness Education. Dr. Monat has published articles and books related to the study
of personality and also to stress and coping. Alan's academic interests include
Abnormal Psychology and computer based learning. As the Director of the Institute,
Alan is responsible for project direction and program development.

Cindy has received her B.A. in Public Relations and is nearing completion on her
M.A. in Communication Management both from Webster University in St. Louis,
Missouri. She has also worked with the National Cancer Institute on two research
projects; the PLCO Cancer Screening Trial at Washington University School of
Medicine in St. Louis and the Gynecologic Oncology Group Protocols at Northwestern
Memorial Hospital/Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.
In her career as a non-profit and government communications consultant, Cindy has
worked with such organizations as the North American Endangered Species Project,
Audubon Society, the City of San Jose's Environmental Services, the Santa Clara
Valley Water District, the City and County of San Diego, and the City and County
of Honolulu, Hawaii. At the Institute for Mental Health and Wellness Education,
Cindy is responsible for foundation, community and governmental fundraising as
well as project direction and program development.
